Sahara-Hare-11

Well, I guess Netanyahu decided to celebrate his electoral win.

ISRAEL CONDUCTS RARE AIRSTRIKE ON SYRIA
By BEN HUBBARD — Jan. 30 3:42 PM EST

BEIRUT (AP) — Israel conducted a rare airstrike on a military target inside Syria near the border with Lebanon, foreign officials and Syrian state TV said Wednesday, amid fears …

There is no more dangerous notion in the world today than the notion of “pre-emptive war.” We have seen the result in Iraq, for those who might have missed those who missed Vietnam getting us into a quagmire that another Administration would be left to clean up. OK?

I stopped the quote because, in the first sentence of a reportage of FACT, the imagined justification for that fact is entered into with the phrase “amid fears.”

And that is always the basis for “pre-emptive” strikes.

Sahara-Hare uh oh

But fears are not things. Fears are phantoms of the mind, no matter how widespread and agreed-upon. Fears are not dependent on outside conditions so much as they are on inner turmoil. And fears are universal. All creatures feel fear, all the way down, at least, to cockroaches. But cockroaches do not (thankfully) bomb other countries because of their fears.

And when deciding to kill people, actual THINGS always trump imagined events feeding fears. Remember those “centrifuge tubes” that Saddam Hussein had?

I will not attempt to comment further on Israel’s foreign or war policy, since that is as futile and masochistic as attempting to suggest that the government ISN’T coming to take your guns away.

I will only note that Syria is in the middle of a civil war, right now. And bombing it — for whatever reasons — seems about as prudent, right now, as lighting a match in the gunpowder shack.

Netanyahu boom UN

Bugs Bunny aficionados will probably know what comes next.

Courage.
